In the Twilight
It's past midnight and I'm listening to music and thinking how affecting music is, on remembering moments in our life. And the feelings, emotions and memories that are aroused by the music...

And as I sit and write this ridiculously wanky self indulgent entry that really is more befitting of an angsty teenager, the following lists the memories that music evokes for me:

1) Sarah McLachlan - Angel: Besides now laughable moments of sitting watching Party of Five and Dawsons Creek with a box of tissues, I also remember being very overwhelmed in highschool 1998. And one night about 3.30am in my bed, I was crying and I couldn't stop. My sister, on her way to the bathroom, heard me. And she came and held me, comfortingly whispering, "It's okay". She held me until I stopped crying and fell asleep. Very gratefully, she never asked me why I cried and she never brought up the moment ever.

2) B52 - Love Shack: I remember being primary school aged, and my sister turning on the television to Video Smash Hits Sunday Mornings, in the upstairs living room where there was this luciously thick sheep skin rug sprawled across the centre floor, and we would both jump around and dance to this song, laughing hysterically and doing all the retro moves.

3) (can't remember singer) - It's getting Hot In Here, So Take Of All Your Clothes: My best friend, who I have known since primary school had her 21st birthday. And her gay friend performed an accoustic guitar version of the song, introducing it as her theme song. I remember her blushing like mad, especially as her whole family was there, and he brought up how she would burn the dance floor with all the dirty dancing moves when this came on.

4) Monifah - Touch It: Dancing with my aforementioned best friend. Note: She actually is sophisticated; don't be misguided by these two songs :P

5) Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian: Singing with my sister at the top of our lungs, to this song on the radio and bopping in the car, after drinking large thick milkshakes from McDonalds she would treat me to. She'd always have a chocolate and I'd have a strawberry.

6) Lisa Loeb - Stay: Besides one of the all time movies, Reality Bites, I also remember my best friend at the time (now no longer due to the passage of time) being jealous of me because of the way his parents used to compare us. And my feeling guilty about it and annoyed that he projected his feelings onto me. And to vent our frustrations, we'd get into arguments over the most trivial of things, without ever addressing the issue.

7) Disney's version of Little Drummer Boy: I remember singing this Christmas Carol with my parents, in the livingroom where the bay window opened to a view of the sun setting in the horizan, burning the sky orange, and mellowing into the forest beneath. And a Christmas tree that reached the ceiling with porcelein decorations, pearls and the twinkling of its blue and green lights. I also think of the warm of egg nog that I used to make in my belly :)

8) Dido - White Flag: A ridiculously painful and silly and trivial chain of events that happened early 2004. Mysteriously the song always popped up on the radio on the way home.

9) Bangles - Eternal Flame: Singing with my mother as she's cooking in the kitchen, the delicious smell of dinner being prepared, and the gas heater in the background filling the room with a rosy warmth.

Oh yes! *finger on chin* I'm bling bling all the way! In fact I'm like a fendi: fabulous but just a little ghetto :P

That is of course why your lovely boy and I, one would think, can get a long :) He likes his divas, and I like my trash.

But if I feel grouchy, angsty, bitchy and cynical... I'll just listen to some of the grungy stuff you like. :)
